Ifounded The Heirloom Tomato Sauce Company in 2007 after a 25 year plus career as a cookbook author and restaurant critic. The company was inspired by my childhood memories of helping my Dad grow bumper crops of tomatoes in a suburban New Jersey backyard. Now I grow heirloom tomatoes in my Maine garden and test new (tomato) recipes in my kitchen. I endorse biodiversity and hope through great-tasting heirloom tomato products to spread the appreciation of these botanical treasures and their preservation.
We use fresh, never pasteurized tomatoes in everything we make. Like wine, each year’s “vintage” varies slightly, depending on growing season conditions. Our supply is limited. We make our products only during Maine’s tomato harvest: late August to mid-September. Currently available is our Mother Marinara Sauce, ’08 harvest. Look for new products in ’09.
